On starting my ce300 it takes a while before she starts the first time. Subsequently she starts straight away immeditely every time, once started.
It would seem sensible that the battery may need replacing but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

Does it turn over slowly? Ifso, id say its the battery. If not, then like Mike sais, it could be the cold start injector.

More info needed.

W124 Cold Start

Thanks Gents,

It takes ages to catch before starting but starts straight away on subsequents start. I'll get the battery changed and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks very much for your replies

they all do this.

its always one of these

OVP Relay
Cold Start injectors
Using cheap petrol

Try a tankful of Highg Octane and STP Injector cleaner. stick the whole lot in.

excuse my ignorance

My 300TE 4 matic has been taking longer and longer to start over this winter and had a new battery 10 months ago after looking through the threads here I suspect I have the very same problem wit the OVP Relay but I dont know what it is so could someone enlighten me to what OVP stands for and possibly where I can order one.

I have tried an online merc spares shop earlier today who has replied asking if I want a bonnet emblem it seem to be getting quite surreal.

thanks in advance

OVP stands for over voltage relay and is there to protect the ABS pump from damage during jump starting.

There have been stories of this being the reason for bad starting.

Just by measuring the output on pin 87 would tell you if its faulty, and there should be 12volts on this connection

Sorry Guys but the whole injection system is getting older and there are alot of thing can go wrong due to low maintenance.

One on the 2 Fuels Pumps not working
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump Relay (also ovp Relais when engine cuts of while driving)
High Voltage Power supply (when the car goes on and turn of immediately)
Worn contacts to the ECU
Old Temp sensors on the head

Never the cold start injector (you can disconnect it unless you want to start the car on the north pole :) Sometimes it injects too much fuel especially when you have problems with the electric, spark plugs, distributor (expensive so nobody spends money on it)

Cheap fuel ..lol.. never heart such thing at all. You can drive the M103 with up to 50% Alcohol without any conversion.

But the injectors could do with a good clean or replacement.
The whole systems needs to be checked with a scope to read out memory of the old KE Jet ECU. Otherwise you can change the whole system and spend hundreds of pounds at your scrapyard or Ebay without any change of the failure.

So good luck with the M102 / M103 ...

Greez,
Oli
