Hey guys,

I have a strange problem with my A150. There is a hollow tapping/ticking noise which is there whether I am running or idling.

It is always the same whether I'm revving or not - like a hollow clock ticking (never faster or slower - always same rate).

Sometimes it goes away for a few minutes but always comes back.

Any ideas before I start stripping it down?

Many thanks,

Research egr and duo valve clicking. Where fitted. Yr model??? Have heard of clicking noise from both. First thought was hydraulic lifters, tappets, but you say sound there no matter what rpm.. Someone who knows more will be along.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Not the lifters as constant speed, was my first thought. What's a Duo valve? Will check my egr.

Injector area but it's hard to say, only one tap (ie not multiple tappet noise). I'll video it tomorrow

Hey!

How's big Goldie?

Sorry about the box, I've relocated to Manchester and have been terribly disorganized! It's currently in storage but will get to it when I can, better late than never!

I've unplugged the little valve thing and it makes no difference. Quite puzzled! Can a petrol injector tap?

Also have a 124 cab project now! So much for my bank balance...

How's business?

No worries at all! It's going well, under a cover at the moment as it was a bit porous through the bulk head and heater box housing. Must sort it soon but have been closed. No worries! Is it the purge valve you have unplugged? Any pic of the ticking object.?

Yeah going very well can't complain at all thanks.

Love a 124! Nothing like it

Are you able to get at the hole? Best kept indoors really as the screen seals aren't in their first flush of youth!

I've attached what I've unplugged.

Will take a vid tomorrow.

The cab is lush, but it's an extremely tatty 188k car... glutton for punishment!

That's the vac transducer, that won't tick. It will be on the wing or near the bulkhead. I will post up a pic. Yes indeed. I have new seals to gin all round ,including the windscreen etc. It's mainly stored inside, but the 123 240d is inside at the moment getting its engine rebuilt.

Excellent, I really appreciate your help! Would a knackered purge valve also make it hesitate occasionally and a slightly wobbly idle too?

No tapping;

Tapping;

As I said, it's intermittent and the noise doesn't increase with revs. It's almost like a hollow chuffing sound and isn't as dramatic as recorded on my phone!

Does it run OK. Does sound a bit like chuffing.. Sorry don't know.. a little like injector blowing can't see how that would come go tho. Do tell when sorted pretty sure it's not ancillary item think noise still there on 1st vid, just further in background.

Runs pretty well, ever so slightly hesitant occasionally but is way overdue a set of plugs etc.

Please put up a recording of the noise and tell us the mileage of the engine. Thanks.
