I am looking for advice on just what to do next.

2 years ago I bought a W202 C250TD with 64k which has now done 112k miles. I bought it because I want an unbreakable car to last me well beyond 200k miles, with reasonable economy as I do about 25k per year.

Having suffered numerous breakdowns (including all the 722.6 gearbox problems), and all the other bits I have had to replace, I am not sure that this car is going to go the distance.

Having studied this site and heard all the stories about w124 diesels doing massive millages, I am wondering if I should just chop this car in for an old E300 diesel.

Although isn't the C250 engine just the same as the 190 and old E class used to use ? (non turbo I know).

I have been put off the W210 by this site (rust etc), and I don't even want to talk about the poor quality of the dealers!

Any advice or experiences you have would be much appreciated.

Ussually Benz engines last for a very long time, unfortunately it sometimes happens that the rest of the car does not last that long...

It could also be that you have purchased a "friday" car. It was build on a friday just before knock off time and was put together sloppily. (Is there such a word?)

Depends on which E Class. The E300 was a 6 cylinder engine. A pal of mine did 150,000 miles in his, with no problems. Replaced the exhaust once. My service garage has a 190 diesel with 284,000 or so miles, only had a new head gasket. As another poster has said, regular servicing is important, look after the car and it will look after you, well most of the time

Thanks for your advice. I am going to test drive an E300 when I can find one.

By the way, my car has a full MBSH and it still lets me down!

I have W210 320cdi. Dont even think of going near the W210 300D. Buy a late W124 and treat it well. Even more dont go near a new one, on feb 11 I had to call out a breakdown service, they guy had already towed 4 2004 Mercs.

so - this begs the question olaf - why are you STILL an owner of you car? sell it - like you tell everyone else to... or shut up about it

maybe if you asked people about the problems you have you might get some a) sympathy and b) some help in fixing it.

my car has been fine btw..
