w202 tensioner change

Hi all
anybody have a rough idea of the cost at an independant for changing the cam chain tensioner?

You do mean the timing chain tensioner,,,thats just a matter of shifting the alternator to get to it.

Is the chain rattling

its a 98 S C180

and yes the chain is rattling - is this an easy job?

Yes easy enough to do, the alternator can stay where it is no need to remove it.
The tensioner is easy but the spring is strong and takes some effort to compress.
Only buy a tensioner from MB, the proceedure to fit one is straight forward but you need to ensure you follow it otherwise the tensioner will put a lot of tension on the chain.
give me the first six digits of your chassis number and I will dig out how you do it.
