Got a late model W203 with an ABS light that illuminates after setting off. I've had my STAR on it and there's a code for the right hand side front ABS sensor but on checking live data there's no speed reading whatsoever from the front left side and the front right hand side is intermittent.

I've changed the ABS sensor on then left hand side hoping for a simple fix but no change. I've then checked the continuity of the wiring from the sensor to the ABS/ESP unit and all OK. I then changed the ABS ring and still no improvement.

I'm running out of ideas except to think there's a module issue, but it appears to be failing in a strange way (i.e. not reading the ABS/Speed sensors). Has anyone come across one failing this way before? There's no codes on star for anything except the front right hand side ABS sensor and a cruise control issue which I think is related to the first code.

Hello
I’m going through the same problem
I change the sensor then the ring and now the module on the abs pump I’m just waiting to have it coded to the car and hopefully this will be the end ( fingers crossed )
I was told that sometimes when the sensor goes it can send a surge back to the module

The 203 has a magnetic seal on the hub from memory.
If changing the seal do not press it all the way in as this will cause no or poor readings.
Knock it in till flush with the hub and check the gap. Flush with the hub should be about right.
Many people (myself included) knock it in too far first time.

Did you replace the right hand sensor that Star reported a fault code for? I’d do that first personally

No, only replaced the one that had no reading on the left. I might swap them around to see if I can get a fault pattern.

Does anyone know if the ABS sensors on a W203 passive or active? (i.e. do they have a power supply to them?).

Also has anyone tested their ABS sensors with a multi-meter? Just wondering what values I'm looking for?

Swapped the sensors right to left and still not speed rating from the left and still the code for the right side. I'm thinking the module has an issue. If I find an ABS/ESP pump with the same part number will it require coding with STAR? If so will this be possible with my 2014 version?

Hello
Can you please tell me if you had it coded as mine is going in on Monday but I’ve heard it’s a 50/50 chance of it working as some codes are locked in and can’t be changed
Thanks

Sorry for slow response, been busy trying to sort it and I think I've hopefully cracked it. I've replaced the module with a second hand unit and have not coded it. I've then continued testing and I think I've narrowed it down to a module issue and seemingly a faulty ABS ring on the one hub which I which I'm waiting for a new one to be delivered to replace. I think the key is to replace any module with the exact same part number. Coding seems to be required for any modules with different part numbers.

Just hope I haven't spoken too soon!

Thanks
I had the hub ring changed still didn’t work
I have had a module fitted with the same part number but it still needs coding
It is going in tomorrow to be coded but it’s 50/50 it will work as some codes are locked in apparently
I will let you know how I get on.
The only other option is to send the full abs pump and module for repair but this means draining the system

What year is yours? if you need it repairing I'd recommend AC Tronics, excellent friendly service at a very reasonable price. Same can't be said of BBA Remanufacturers of late sadly.
