Hi all - joined to ask the following...any help/advice greatly appreciated!

I have a 55-plate C220 CDI Coupe Sport Edition...when I start from cold the engine revs upto 5000 rpm until it kicks into 2nd gear and the change is quite 'jerky'. It seems to calm down once the engine has heated to normal temp. In addition, if I accelerate hard then come off the gas quickly the auto box changes up then down (with a huge jolt) and then free revs - I can only stop this by going into neutral and then putting back into 'drive' until it engages.

I have found through reading another similar post that this may be down to gearbox oil level but don't know for certain.

Feedback required pls.

Any idea when/if the oil has been changed!

The car had a B-service some 4,000 miles ago - I think they might have changed gearbox oil but don't know for sure - have tried to call MB Manchester but their service manager is on leave and other's there won't help

oil change and filter we're all done only 4,000 miles back! I'll change oil again but I was wondering if any forum members have had similar problems?

Shouldnt think you have a oil problem then!! Next step is to stick it on Star and see what the codes and values are!

Surely the rev limiter will kick in before 5000 rpm.
It is normal to hold high revs in 1st gear when cold, to warm the cat etc, but not 5000.

The RPM limiter only comes into force in N and P

Why not MB tech in Warrington, not that far, he is a good member here with all of the dear

Oh gear!

You really need to remove the gearbox sump pan and inspect for metal.

Also a fault code read too.

So, a diesel that redlines at 4500rpm does not have a rev limiter that works in every gear? I find that strange.
