I have 2004 C180 kompressor went to press the windscreen washer stalk to find out no water was spraying, no pump noise and the windscreen wipers aren't moving. So I've checked the pump even replaced it and still no movement. I'm now thinking it could be something to do with the indicator stalk as if i indicate right the stalk wont stay right. Although I indicate left it seems to work fine. Just wondered would these both be linked. I also heard and aknowledged that the washer pump doesnt have a fuse but wondered if theres any other diagnostics or troubleshooting i can do! First mercedes so I am keen to learn
Can anybody help?

This in normally the stalk that fails, STAR should confirm this and a steering wheel off job, some folk manage to clean them by running switch cleaner down

I spoke to a local Mercedes specialist via email about the problem too they came back with this.

Data from the combi switch can be read in the front SAM. It may be advisable
to look here first to see if the combi switch is telling the front SAM to
operate the washers. Normal charge to read and diagnose is £55 + VAT

What does this entail? Is SAM unit a diagnostics port in the front of the car, as i was under the impression it was under the driver side bonnet catch? As I have a mate with with a snap on solus pro who will do it for nothing. Just wanted to find out a bit more myself

What they have said is what I would do first, I dout if the snap on scanner will read live data from a SAM, only the later software S/O will read a sam full stop......

So what is the front SAM is it the relay fuse box under the bonnet?

To go into more depth, it is a storage device that memorizes the features on the car, they can go faulty and lose something like the wipers for instance. All the electronic components are stored in the SAM.

Have finally got hold of a new indicator stalk to replace but I've looked online about removing the steering wheel which is easy enough. The only thing I'm worrie about is this clock spring. Once I undo the screws on the sensor behind the wheel I'm not goin to have a coil spring suddenly come spinning round am I? I've read people tape it to stop it from moving but I don't know what I'm looking at here. Can Anybody help here? Cheers

Email address and I will send the details, as you lift it off, just tape it to stop it from unwinding, using a light weight tape

Hello Cole,
I have a wierd problem with the indicator stalk on my C320 CDI W204 (2008) that I hope you may be able to help me with. On a long journey (which I do quite regularly) everything is fine until I'm about 1 hour (or about 50 miles) into the journey and then the indicators stop working - in fact all of the stalk is dead wipers, headlamp flashers, screen wash.
I stop at next convenient place and switch off the ignition, wait a minute or so then switch back on and all ok and ok for the rest of the journey ...another 4 hours.

This has happened on the last three long journeys to the point where I almost predict it will happen - the most unfathomable problem? like it has a mind of it's own. Of course it is quite a dangerous situation so I must get it resolved but how to begin? I can't take it to agarage and ask them to run it for an hour until it happens! and even if I did what would their action be to solve?
I really hope you can suggest something as I really like the car and would like to keep it a few more years ....

I posted this on the other thread, I am sure he will help out.

What a horrible fault something I cannot recall seeing before. It could be a CAN fault. I wonder if you asked Cole at MBS if you could just pop in when the car is playing up and he could join up to STAR.
