- 2011 C220 sport CDI
Hi,
I've just bought my first Mercedes at Xmas.
2012 C220 CDI Sport Estate.
It's been well looked after with a FSH and only just done 71,000 miles.
BUT. It was in a collision, damaged and repaired, when I bought it both headlights were working fine, albeit the O/S had condensation in it.
Now, the N/S headlight is completely out and full of condensation (I realised there's a dipped beam dust cap missing).
The O/S is still working but not self leveling and I'm concerned it needs replaced.
So, after some research and chatting to an indy Merc mechanic, I think my options are:
1. To replace the ballasts under the headlights, get a dust cap for the N/S and hope for the best.
(My mechanic said this might work but if water is getting in from elsewhere (cracks from the collision) then the same problems might happen again.
2. Replace both headlights and ballasts. I think this would be the wiser option.
The Mercedes dealership in Belfast have told me one headlight would cost me about £650 plus VAT with the ballasts adding another £220/£260 plus VAT.
Trying to find new / used headlights online is difficult.
Most breakers are quoting around £500 for one headlight (usually without ballast).
I've seen a lot of similar headlights online but many are plug and play xenon upgrades for halogen headlights.
The only other suitable headlights are nearly the same price as the dealership.
Has anyone here got any advice for similar issues?
Any signposting to decent online parts suppliers?
Are Beta Auto Parts trustworthy?
