I have a 2011 W204 180CDI (the smaller diesel they sell outside the UK but identical to the C200 and C220 btw)
The water pump is shot and makes a noise and leaks a bit.
I have seen one video where they simply undo the seven torx screws and change the pump after untensioning the belt. There are others where the entire housing and joint to the engine is removed with the pump as part of it. Why do they do this when simply undoing the torx screws is much simpler?

Thanks for any help

Funnily enough I've just read a thread on t'other side (forums.mbclub.co.uk) about exactly this, where a couple of folk commented that there's the pump and behind that the housing bolted to the block, and it was the housing that was leaking as well as the pump being noisy, so they had to change both - and as a precaution also changed the drive belt and the gasket.

I have seen the smaller pump section available in some of the online parts websites.
The genuine MB pump comes with the housing and pipe.

There isn't a huge difference in cost though.

Of course, no matter which one you get , you will still have to drain and refill the coolant.
