Hi folks, I have a w205 2014 1.6L 154HP. I am skeptical of the fact that the noise in this video is normal and is Direct Injection (DI) only:

Can someone confirm if their w205 is giving out the same noise? The dealership says its just DI, not a faulty High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP). But this noise is also traveling into the cabin and it was not the case a couple weeks back.

The cabin noise is something like this:

There is a batch of noisy HPFP and they don't get replaced under warranty as that is the only issue with them.

Get them to show you another newer car with the same engine and compare. It's always hard to tell volume level and sound from a video, but they are more noisy that the old school IDI

Thanks for the help! really appreciate it.

Warranty is over anyway and I am willing to pay but just want to make sure its the HPFP otherwise I will keep on changing items for troubleshooting purposes :)

The noise that's bugging me in the cabin is definitely the HPFP's noise which wasn't there before. So my best bet is HPFP but looking for someone having the same experience before I go on ordering the part and replacing it.

Update: Problem has been resolved. The cabin noise was coming in via the steering shaft and its boot (in the driver's footwell).

A tip to diagnose is this: This cabin noise comes in even when the car is stationary, a very subtle ringing (this ringing is definitely coming in from the HPFP). Just rotate the steering a bit and it will change in intensity. This helped me diagnose the problem. Giving dealership a heads-up on the issue saved time and money.

They quickly figured out the problem and ordered new part for me. They even pushed a cloth inside the shaft to test the hypothesis and the noise was gone.

Many people change their HPFP or Wrist Pins because of this issue. It is not so uncommon, many cars are suffering from this issue and people do not know a fix.

Hope this helps!

Hello, is it difficult to change the hpfp ?
Expansive?
I have the same sound since one month and it seems also came from the hpfp...
Thanks for your reply.

Read the thread above. The OP determined that the issue was infact with a steering shaft.
In the meantime welcome to forum and do stick around.

Hello, thanks for your reply. But when I read again all the post, I understood that it was a hpfp issue... I'm French and noob in English so I believe that you have right and that it was a steering shaft problem.
