W207 -Non Start No dashboard lights. Stranded

Can some one shed any light, i disconnected the battery to change a bulb on my car. just removed one terminal and reconnected the battery only to find that i have no dash lights and the car wont start. There is power as the radio and interior lights work but when i turn the key to position 2 there are no dash lights and the car wont start at all. the steering is not locked and it doesn't lock.the key doesn't seem to do anything at all except lock the car.

The car is a w207 e350 Diesel.

any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm located in Kent.

How old and who serviced it last.

its a 2009 model out of warranty . Last serviced 2 months ago for oil cooler seals, oil change and injector seals by local indie
