Hi all, hope your ok.

We have a clk 280 with the M272 Engine.

Due to a few oil leaks from the valve cover I have e removed both sides but these use sealant and not a gasket.

Do we know the correct stuff to use or will a high temp RVT do just as well, I have a tube and says for valve covers etc etc but though I would ask here?

I was always under the impression that if it had a gasket, then it had to be replaced with another gasket ??? ( and then possibly a thin smear of gasket cement??? )
Generally correct. I use new gaskets every time, with the addition of a little sealant in critical areas, such as where the gasket sits across 2 joined surfaces. The OP’s question was about cam covers on M272 v6 engine. The cam cover forms the upper camshaft retaining caps too. They are machined to very fine tolerance. No gasket is used, relying on a zero thickness sealant to keep the oil in.

And how successful is it?
