Hi All,

My e320cdi (2001) had developed a diesel leak at the front of the engine - after being parked for a couple of days! The brittle pipes appeared to be the logical part for replacement based on various posts.

Having replaced the pipes, there STILL appears to be leaking diesel. So I assume that it must be the diesel pump. So:

1. Any way of verifying if it is the pump? I have been told that it could be other pipes lower down in the engine?

2. Is the pump replacement a big job, i.e., removal of the radiator etc?

3. Any idea of costs of the replacement pump?

If you have any other suggestions etc, please let me know.

Many thanks in anticipation.

When you put the new pipes into the pump, did you smear the seals with a little lubricant (vaseline/ white grease?), the seals can otherwise snag leading to leaks.

As for verifying the pump, a thorough wash down may help you determine where it is leaking from.

Hi there, yes done the checks and it does appear to be the pump.

Can anyone advise if this is a complex job for a garage or one which can be handled at home? Looks like space is tight, so the radiator will need to be removed?

Any advise would be appreciated.
