w210, e280 with wrong gearbox.

I recently bought an e280 210series, ( as some nice b*****d wrote off my lovely 124 series 280te) Anyway I have found driving it more and more the gear box did not feel as smooth as it should have been. After a little investigation I have found that part number a2032700300 gearbox ( type 722 616) has been fitted to the car. Can any one tell me the difference between A2102707600 ( type 722 606) and the above please. Dont say the numbers please cause I am a bit annoyed about it. I have also found that a cable that should go into the back of the gearbox near the prop is just cable tied out of the way.

Any info would be greatly taken in.

The 606 and 617 were both fitted to the E280

so this other gearbox 722 616 is wrong then so why should this work and what does the cable do that is not connected???

I cant find a car that uses the 616 and its very hard searching backwards

MINE HAS THE FIVE SPEED BOX. LOOKING AT IT AGAIN IT LOOKS LIKE IT COMES FROM SELECTOR ASSY. NO T SURE THOUGH.

The 722.6 box did not come out till mid 96 where as the 210 came out late 95 and the first ones only had the earlier box
