I've noticed, for some time, a kind of buzzing/clicking noise coming from the engine bay - the right hand side, inner wing, close to bulkhead...ish. The noise - which is more of a whirring buzz, now that i think about it, can only be heard when the engine is warm and switched off. the other day, i investigated more fully and located the noise to what i think is the egr valve. When i took one off the vac hoses that goes into the top of it, the noise abruptly stopped. i've tried the same thing a few times and i always get the same result: switch engine off, pop bonnet, hear buzzing noise from egr, take off hose, slight hiss, buzzing stops.
questions: does anyone else hear the same noise under their bonnet when engine hot but off. is the valve knackered? can that be the reason why my econ is so lousy - i've posted several times about economy and have lots of advice and feedback from a few people - previously, a diesel expert capped the egr off for me, advising this could help improve my econ. it didn't so i replaced the hose.
