Driving along this morning - all fine from start as per, but then, on getting into stop-start traffic, noticed that the engine was "hunting" at low revs/standstill.

Everything fine when knocked into "N" so it's not the engine, but in "D" it seemed as if the VC was sticking or similar.

First time I've driven since it got really cold (well, for us Southern poofs -8, me shandy frosted over) and it's been standing outside for a couple of days.

Is it the fluid in the coupling got too thick or something? Fine in all other respects as soon as I get my toe down.

Whaddyathink?

*sniff* - will nobody held a poor defenceless 16 stone petal in distress?

I think that the MAF has gone down and the engine has no real power output. unplug it and try the car

Welcome to the MB forum, did not see your post, it must have been done with invisible type:D:D

Can see a wee bit of a problem with the "toe down sooner" approach in heavy traffic....

Think MAF is fine, as soon as you get some open road, it flies as per normal.

Things are fine so long as in N - revs and ticks over smooth. Took it out for a blow out late this afternoon - all drove fine till got back to crawl and needed the VC to do its stuff.

Entirely by the by - just heard on the news that they sold exactly ONE Hummer in the UK last month. Every cloud etc....

The MAF does not affect the car at idle, more at mid range pulling, and can go on a key start and come back again later

If you touch the brake do the revs settle?

No - have to be on the brake at standstill as the thing is trying to move at idle on the flat, so that's when it's doing the hunting. Also is a bit lumpy when you first pull away after a period at standstill, but then is fine.

Solved

Problem due to operator error. Who knew?

Seems that when I changed the air filter, I didn't crank up the hose clip between the cover and the outflow tight enough, and some air was passing engine side of the MAF.

Properly sealed, all back to normal.
