hi
my e300td 1998 will soon need a new exhaust section (don't have access to exploded parts diagram) but it is the section which includes the cat. and runs under the floor.

i have no idea what i might expect to pay for this section, but would like advice whether it is worth fitting genuine m-b part.

i live in stockport and work near chester.
thanks if you can advise, ennio

The Merc systems do seem to last for a very long time, but they cost plenty too. It's down to what Merc will charge you. I suspect it will be plenty. It also depends on how long you intend keeping the car. No point spending a fortune on a merc stainless steel system and the selling the car 6 months later. I also believe that qwikifit do a lifetime warranty. The idea is that most people only keep a car for 2-3 of years so if the system lasts that long, they get away with it. We longer term merc owners can run the same car for years. So, even if the system is not as good as a Merc one (it isnt!) and drops off after a few years, they'll just fit a new shiny replacement FOC every few years.
Aside from the material its made from, there won't be any difference in the systems, they should all be built to the same bore and shape.

My Merc exhaust failed after 4,000 miles.

They refused to replace it. Said it was wear and tear!!

Beat that.

Ennio,

I personally think that batteries, tyres and exhausts are all none dealer items. Whilst I am happy to agree that a kwik fit exhaust may not be as good as the MB item I think the price difference more than cover it. Jberks, who I always agree with :) ,says that Mb systems last well, I actually think that all new cars have good systems these days. I have just had to buy a new system for my daughters Ford Ka to replace the original system - and its a 98 R reg!

As you are in Stockport I can recommend Mini Max, they are in Heaton Chapel just off the A6 and in the phone book. They always do me a good job at a good price. The only thing they ever do wrong is call my 72 350SL "the old Merc"! That said they have done bits on it for free.

Hope that helps.

Mark.
