Sent my car to body shop last week for a little touch up,2 days work they said i rang them on the second day to see was it ready. To be informed car would not start i said immobiliser might have kicked in and to lock the car and open it and try it then they did said the battery was dead and they would recharge it.So i was told to call around 5 that day to collect it i brought the spare key with me.Put in spare key started straight away, put in key they had and the car started but would knock off straight away.So now my question is can i get my key reprogrammed or do i need a new one.

They could have dropped it and broken off the transponder coil

^what he said. if the spare key works ok it has to be a key problem, sit down before you hear the price...or ask malcolm for a repair?

As far as I'm aware, even if the battery in the key is flat the car will start. A bodyshop I used in the past actually dropped my key fob and the batteries came out. They put them back the wrong way round and didn't tell me what they'd done, obviously believing that they'd put the batteries back in correctly. When they handed the car back to me I couldn't lock it but it would start OK. It might be something as simple as that - just a thought.

The key uses the transponder to energize the key when its in the lock,, the test is to press any button on the key when in the ignition,,if it starts then the coil has fallen off

Hi,
Depends on the key fob the O/P has, if it is a electronic key no batteries are required to start the car, they are only needed to lock it. If the vehicle has a single button fob batteries are needed to disable the immobiliser, though if it has the DAS system is fitted with this type of fob then I believe the batteries are not required to start it.

I was going to have some coils made to repair them with,, one of the members is posting on the other forum now instead.

I payed out £50 to get the parts, and I was earning nothing out of them

thats gratitude for you! save them £200 and they wont stump up a tenth of that for your costs and time

they deserve all the bad sh*t they get IMO

i think these people are despicable. if for nothing other than taking advantage of your good nature (and what i said above!)

Sorry i know how you feel i have been caught for money too a few times even by a next door neighbour and he still talks to my as if nothing happened. What do you do these people are out there.

well you have the option of helping no one, and you get branded as unhelpful, or you try to help certain people who you hope you can trust and be acused of favouritism, or you try, as Malcolm did, to help anyone you can, get your fingers burnt, then you are put off helping anyone ever again for that very reason! personally, if anyone saved me £200 for a key, and wanted £20 for the privelidge, id be at the cash machine/writing the cheque etc faster than you could say "fixed!"

im not a nasty guy at all, but i can only hope that these people get what they deserve! stuff like this really annoys me! And if i ever get round to teaching you how to get drunk and get an ASBO, Malcolm, thats where we can start!:lol:
