OK I have checked both the keys and as far as I can see they are both good re locking and starting the cars, and for this I am 95% certain the fault is in the EIS on the car and not with the keys, so they will be returned to you

Whats the EIS.
And where would the fault likly to be there and would it be a replace job or a repair job.

Yes it looks as though it is the ignition switch that has failed

Sent my car to body shop last week for a little touch up,2 days work they said i rang them on the second day to see was it ready. To be informed car would not start

A flat battery after 2 days, that makes that battery look a bit suspect, might be worth trying a known good battery in the car. The date the battery was sold is often scratched on the battery casing or on the battery posts.

In the body shop it could be left with the boot or doors open and this would flatten it after a short time

Sure, there are many possibilities but the battery should be given the all clear first, that battery could be 6 or 7 years old and perhaps unable to hold a charge.

Yes it looks as though it is the ignition switch that has failed

This is getting complicated, if you have a key that works then the switch is OK, though I could not see any fault on the key you sent I will open it again and double check the transponder section, what was the other key for (203)

The key with the wooden tag is mine off 2001 E320 CDI.
The key wraped in green papper was off 1998 C250 Td. ( Father inlaws. )
REF email on the 15/3/2011.

Sorry about confusion.

The w203 key will not start the car at all.
And we have no spare key for it.
And when you say unlike any seen bofore do you mean it like different guts inside it.

And my W210 key will start the car for a second sometimes and it will knock off strait away, and will only let the car turn over other times.
It locks and opens the car no problem. And the spare key i am usen now works fine.

Television (or anyone that may be able to advise)

I am having issues where the car opens fine from teh key remote, but when you put it into the ignition, sometimes it actuates and other times it will not. This can be really hit or miss and both keys seem to do it.

Could this be that both keys are damaged ? (I should point out that about a year ago the car did this once or twice and I swapped keys with the wife and all seemed well, so two keys could be a possibility).

I am OK with a soldering iron, but for the life of me I cannot get the pcb out of the main body of the key.. Is there a knack and is a manual repair easy ?

You need a knife with the end bent at about 30 degrees to lift the catch on the nylon strip
