Hi everyone!

I had the 'oil level sensor defective' message intermittently for about a year /no need to mention I hate it:mad:/ and after soursing a new one from MB Parts Department I've changed it myself folowing the WIS software instructions. The dreaded message didn't reappear for probably two days and today it came on again! I wander does any memory needs reseting or I'm being totaly unlucky and the new sensor is faulty as well. Any comments would be much appreciated!

Did you trace the wiring/connections back to make sure all is well?

I would expect that such a device would be reprogrammable or at least register on a diagnostic machine, ring ur local servcie department and enquire..and dont be fobbed off with 'we would need to see it',

Was an E300TD, now a Lexus LS400
Now this is odd, because the other day driving around the M25 I had this. Pulled over, let the engine rest for a minute, and checked the level to find it right slap bang in the middle.

Just to be safe I poured a quarter of a litre of fresh oil in, not so much that it would be over-filled.

This is the second time its done it in a year, I was going to buy a new oil sender.

Just to be on the safe side, there isn't a warning for low oil pressure is there?

I had a problem with oil level sensor too, was there when the car was new. It may well be you have a faulty one, even though it is new!!

Ask MB if the part number has changed, if it has the original part was defective. You can also ask how many MB sold in the last 12 months.
