I've been looking for an 'owners workshop manual' type book for the W210, covering 6-cylinder petrol engines - specifically the 3.2 112 engine in the '97 cars. Benz Club Sales offer a book but I am not sure if it covers this engine. Haynes appear to be 'considering' producing such a book. I'd have thought they could buy a car cheaply enough to pull to bits !

Has anyone any ideas of a suitable book ?

Its a real struggle to find a manual for most Mercedes models. There are CD rom manuals advertised on ebay which if you can get them to run on your PC are quite good, chances are though you will tie your computer in knots in the process, it is main agent software that is designed to run on a network, I ended up binning mine in frustration! I have bought a paperback manual, also off ebay and published by Peter Russek Publications Limited (tel 01494 440829). It is of quite limited, use to be honest but better than nothing at all. By far the most useful source of information is this forum, any problems I have had with my W210 have been quickly diagnosed by forum members and fixed by myself!

So what are the problems with the 210? Is it the engines, they are all different, so one one coudnt really call that a 210 problem Electrix, or aircon? I am planning to buy a low mileage 210, so are the later, 2000, and 01 models mor fault free? Thanks

The one thing you should concern yourself with when buying any W210 is RUST! Even low milage examples can suffer quite dramatically. Door window frames, front wings, door bottoms, wheel arches, bonnets and boot lids all can go, engine cross members and front suspension upper mounts can disolve before your eyes! Do a search on this forum and be prepared to be horrified!
Don't be put off though, just check the car over with a fine toothed comb before you splash the cash, may be consider getting an independent report. Only look at cars with a complete service history.
A well looked after W210 in good condition is a wonderful car to own and drive!
