Hello
I've just replaced the rear discs and pads on my 2008 Eclass estate with genuine merc parts and they are now binding, both of them.
They have been cleaned and greased and the sliders, the pistons seem to go back easily enough, I can't think of anything else

Looking at a couple of threads on here and they point to new calipers

Does anyone know if we still get a dicount at Grangemouth Mercedes or is there anywhere else better

Thanks

Wrong grease can cause the rubber to swell. The rubber can then gab the sliders. Are the calipers moving left / right ok?

Are the pads sliding within the calipers ok, I've had to grind pads down some in the past, but they're usually EBC.

How many miles have you done on them ? Might be worth doing 20 miles with some gradual breaking just to bed them in ?

Doubt u need calipers, disassemble clean, one side at a time, check pads are free to move up to disc and back. Reassemble try again if not previously binding you have changed sommat.

The pads are quite free in the calipers and the psistons push back easy enough, but I did use copper grease on the pins maybe I should have used silicone instead , I'll have a look at that tomorrow, thanks

I was hoping that would help, Ive done about 40 miles so far and it has gone a bit better but one side is still getting over 100 deg

Copper grease will be the cause, w/o doubt.
Strip and clean with white spirit, you might be lucky but I doubt it.
Me thinks you need new rubber components where ever copper grease has contaminated.

Not for use on condoms though, being red it causes confusion.

Is it a disc/drum set up at the back? Is it the pads on the disc that are binding or maybe the handbrake shoes in the drum?

@Uncle Benz posted a useful tip about W/S211 rear caliper plastic pistons going out of round, might be worth considering.

Cheers for the heads-up!

The pistons are made of plastic. Mad, I know! With age they mushroom a bit at the outer end. When you push them back in they bind. I’m sorry, but a pair of calipers is the quickest fix.

I know, but I'm running out of choices, I need to get them sorted once and for all

Ive been out this morning and checked the sliders and cleaned them but they were free anyway

'mushroom' pistons are quite common and known feature of these... someone have been milling them back to straight, but if pad and sliders move freely, I would go next straight to new calipers...
