Early or late 06? The face lift was Oct 06 and has the V6 3.0 and 7G box rather than the IL6 3.226 and 5G box. The mirrors are an easy give away with the pre-face lift W211's having the whole mirror attached to the door and the face lift models only join at the bottom. (Easier to see than to describe).

No only the 3.0ltr ones are V6 the 3,226 one is an IL6 and was fitted in the E (W210, W211) & S (W220) until ~Sept 06

ok. so does anyone know why they downsized from a 3.2 litre to a 3 litre engine? is there any power loss/ performance loss/ economy loss or gain with the smaller engine? slightly off topic, i know, but may also help the OP decide which option would best suit them

Tax reasons in Europe is the reason I've been given (BM have done the same with the 530 & 535 both having 3.0ltr engines), the power has gone up significantly though with the reduction in capacity. The fuel economy is slightly better with the V6 as well and it meets the higher euro 4 emissions levels at the same time. Initially the switch to euro 4 increased fuel usage due to the burning off in the particle filter however that has been revised and my V6 is slightly more fuel efficient than my IL6. I must admit to enjoying the extra power occasionally though.
