I have recently purchased a 2002 E320 with only 15,000km. It is a MB Approved Used (Australia) and is fitted with a lot of options including COMAND.

I believe there was a number of software upgrades for the W211 for such things as the SBC brakes. Can anyone specify exactly what was upgraded and what I should check out?

By the way..I love the car!! A couple of drives of W211's made the purchase decision easy. It was not too hard to find an immaculate low mileage vehicle with MB. I also had some experience with the dealer with my 300E-24. Their service was superb, and nothing has been too much trouble for them over the last couple of years. If you have a good dealer it makes it very easy..why can't they all be like that??

There are loads of updates but if it's been serviced at the dealer they should all have been done over the years.

Hi jberks

You raise an interesting point. We are all familiar with periodic software upgrades for our PCs but we tend to forget that many modern cars are controlled by processors too.

I have often wondered whether ECUs and other programmable vehicle processors get upgrades but I've never personally encountered a situation where the subject has been raised. For example, when my car has been serviced. I have never seen an entry on my service documentation stating 'ECU software upgrade, version xyz' or been informed of any kind of upgrade. I have occasionally had upgraded component fitted but never software.

Are software upgrades that common?

None of the cars I have owned have ever been the subject of a recall. I assume software upgrades could take place as part of a recall?

REGARDS

Phil
