Hello,

I own a 2016 E220D ( W213 ) amg line.

Its got a feature called gliding mode which allows you to coast when you release the throttle.

I used to get 75-80 mpgs on motorways. It coasts for ages without losing much speed but recently after having it serviced at mercedes and getting my fuel filter changed, my car has started slowing down dramatically on motorways even when its in gliding mode.

Nowadays, I barely get 50 mpgs. any idea to what this is? I had someone look at my tyres and alignment issues and theres nothing of that sorts. Thanks

Hello and welcome,

Did Mercedes do a software update?

Also is it getting to temperature and staying there?

Did they do anything with the brakes? Could have a binding brake caliper.
They would have reset the pressures, they could have chosen the lower end of the pressures which may affect it.

I will keep an eye on the temperature. They may have done a software update. Hard to tell what they did.

I suspect its something they may have done as there’s frictional resistance for sure. The car used to go on and on even on slight hills.. I will make of note of this pressure issue and flag it.

Thanks a lot for your time

Hello All,

A few days ago I posted that my W213 ( E220 D ) is returning me just under 50 mpgs since its been to an A service at Mercedes Coventry as opposed to getting 79 MPGs on motorway ( in eco mode with gliding mode kicking in every now and then ) prior to the service. After pulling almost all my hairs out, I found out that in vehicle setting the active brake assist by default goes to level 2. This was never the case. I clearly remember it used to be set to level 1. I turned it off completely and trust me it feels like someone has taken a 50 kg backpack off your back. I wish I could turn it off permanently but Mercedes does not let you and it by default goes back to level 2…arggh!!!!!. I love and hate tech.

Thats good, but a bit odd, I can't see the connection between active brake assist and gliding. Maybe on the 2 setting its putting the pads closer to the discs for emergency braking preperation....

It does start slowing the car down. I compared the speed and gliding on same patch of road.

You know how freely the car rolls when its in neutral? Try experimenting with this… drive your e class and put it in neutral ( with active braking set to 0 ) and observe how long it can glide. Now do the same but with active braking set to 3. You will see a massive decline in speed and distance ( and in shorter time )
