Guys,

Which is the best one to go for under 10k???

I am really after one of these cars, i think the design is timeless and I have been after one for ages, now just need to decide which is the best one to go for.

Is it better to go for a lower mileage petrol or a higher mileage diesel?

Any advise greatly received and if you know of any good deals then let me know!

Cheers,

David.

Go for one with all the trimmings, including XENONS,COMAND and AMG alloys. You will get a 2000/2001 S320 or S320 CDI for about £10,000.

They are both good, I just like petrol

Just sold my S500lwb for £5750. 1999 model in excellent condition with EVERY option factory fitted. Horrendously expensive to run but the model to have. I have a E320 cdi and just cannot imagine that diesel engine in an S class. Just does not seem right. Has to be a snarling V8 lump in a car of this calibre!!

Watch for rusty wheel arches and airmatic problems. Get one with full MB service history. Rust problems should be fixed by MB dealers at their expense. Also check all recalls have actually been done, e.g. Instument cluster if applicable and heater box drain valve (this caused flooding in passenger footwell)

Hi,
I have just bought a S500LWB for my work http://www.vipsec.co.uk/ , I have done 2,000 miles & set the trip when I picked it up, average over that time was 23.5mpg, 66mph,23hrs driving. I have returned 27mpg on a long run.

To get the same car in Diesel would have cost a few thousand more, but talking to colleagues, their average would be 36mpg on a long run.

I am happy that I bought the 5 Litre Petrol, price wise it was cheaper, better looked after, more options & can get out of situations quicker.

S280 underpowered by far. S320 ok but for the extra wow factor go for the S500. Sounds like a Ferrari on full chat!!

Went and saw a X Reg S320 Petrol LWB today. Was £9700 with 67k on the clock.

What do you think would be a reasonable price to pay for this considering the alloys need doing, some paint work and only 3MB stamps in the service book.....

I think i should be walking away, any opinions??

if you went for this car with only 3 mb stamps you may find that the anti-rust warrenty will not be valid, but there are loads of s class's around, the 430 is also a good choice.X reg will seen you in the lower vrt.I pay less than my wifes astra.

Would walk away. Before selling my S500 I watched market for few weeks. Prices are in meltdown. If u look around there are some top S classes for 7 - 8k. Wish I had asked more for mine but needed rid!
