Hey everyone, hope you're having a great day.

I've bought a Mercedes S350, 2011 model. It's my first Mercedes. It's been a great car so far. A few niggles here and there but it's generally been fine.

I've started to notice an issue with the transmission recently. I'll describe the symptoms below.

- While driving, the gearbox starts behaving a weird. There is usually some RPM slippage. When I try and accelerate, the rpm dial moves up a little bit without any change in speed.

- I'm unable to change the gears using paddle shift.

- The performance is also very limited, increasing speed very slowly.

- Only way I've found so far to drop gears is to slow down so the car is forced to drop down the gears

- When accelerating back up, it shifts gears as as if it's almost forced to do so, at about 3000 RPM. It holds onto the gear until it has to change, rather than a control unit telling the gearbox to change gears.

Restarting the car fixes the issue.

I've had the gearbox serviced in April. If anyone can shed some light on this issue, I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance,
Collin

Welcome buddy , sounds like a nice car . It’s in limp mode because of a fault .
Can you return the car to the dealer to fix under warranty?
If not it’s Mercedes specialist time , there will be a fault code logged .
Where do you live so a specialist can be recommended? Update your user details with location
Was the gearbox service done by MB or a specialist?

Hi there, thanks!

I love the car, it's supremely comfy and I can do a lot of mileage with ease.

I bought it from a used car dealer and he's already fixed some issues for me. I want to diagnose the issue first before getting in touch with them.

I got the service done by Hampshire Service Centre. I'm based in Swindon.

I've booked a diagnosis with MB&B in Cheltenham next week. Fingers crossed it's nothing major.

Let’s hope so , let us know how you get on . If you are at all handy , it helps to have an icarsoft code reader for these cars . You can probably pick one up for £100 on eBay or here on the forum sometime

Thanks,

Yes will be taking it to my local independent MB specialist.

Is the gears changing at 3000rpm a common limp mode function or is it something else. I have no EML or warning lights on.

Reverts back to normal once switch off and restart the car.
