i have a 30000 mile 2005 e30cdi had a lot of electrical faults in the first few years and a few issues with engine intermittently stalling and unable to restart afterwards. they have told me they have fitted an igintion switch to cure the problem which has been ongoing for nearly two years.
the extented warranty expires in a few weeks conviently and i am unsure weather fault is fixed or not. there seems to a large number of issues with this model and merc have already extented warranty foc once but are unwilling to do it again.
the car has a few extras on it as well leather,panoramic sunroof, tracker, heated seats, sat nav with 6cd disc, parking sensors, folding rear seats and telephone kit is this a faulty model and is it worth paying £1000 to extent warranty

damned if you do , damned if you don't.
To be honest, I'd probably not extend it. £1,000 would pay for an awful lot of repairs (at an indie anyway) and if anything major went I'd expect a substantial contribution from MB. Additionally the warranty probably has exclusions that will bite you if you came to claim.
I'd put the £1000 in the bank and find yourself a good indie should the worst happen. You'll probably find its trouble free now anyway and whilst you may get the odd niggle, its doubtful anything that major will fail. What I might also do is ask MB to agree to warranty the fault you have been suffering from for the next 12 months. If they're confident they've fixed it, why not? Anything else you'll cover yourself.

i had the intention of looking after the car myself after the warranty expired and keeping it to the death but i did not expect as many faults as i have had and worried death maybe be sooner than i think

Fixing stuff is usually the easy bit, its the diagnostics that can get nasty. Self repair is a good plan if you have access to a star computer. Certainly for servicing, if you're doing that yourself, then you can add that saving to the £1k (you'd probably need to use the dealer if you extended the warranty) so its even more on the side of 'don't extend'.

Issues on 2005 E's are unusual. Sure, the odd niggle but they're generally pretty reliable. My 04 one hasn't had anything over the last 3 1/2 years thats worried me.

05 -> you're well clear. It affects 02-03 models.
