Ok, sorry for all these 'whats this - where does that go' threads, but I couldn't find reference to this in the manuals:

Engine is a W210 E300 DT elegance.

Is it power steering? I ask because the dipstick showed the fluid to be very low - the engine was icey cold, and parked on a surface that makes the car lean slightly over to the nearside - which is towards the reservoir.

Right, next question - the level looks low - what should it be when the engine is cold, or should I only measure it once the engine is at normal operating temperature?

Is it best to flush the old fluid first? How is this done?

Yes - it is the Power Steering fluid resivior.
Not normally requred to drain and flush the system, top up to the correct mark with ATF.

Thanks, will do it tomorrow then. Power steering sounds ok anyway, no funny noises or anything, just a slight whine on full lock but you expect that anyway.
