All that does is make more people not bother with insurance....

Agreed or someone at fault may damage your car and not be able to afford the excess leaving you to foot it or lose your no claims if your own insurance has to cough up.

When Brian taught me to drive one thing I remember him saying to me...ignore the tailgater and the nit that is trying to make you go faster...aalways drive within the speed limit and drive as you feel safe and comfortable..wise words Mr B.

It seems though that stupid people are out there. Last years someone did exactly that at my Dad's house, he bit his lip all evening & that night, but the following day needed to go to work (78yr old undertaker ) A phone call to Plod actually saw them turn out, then call a local garage who came & lifted said car ...... it seems to have focussed the mind of someone because it's not happened since. ;)

this happened to me recently. I leaft a note on the windscreen, saying it was my driveway and I need access to it. they didn't move their car despite seeing the note.

next day I removed all 4 valves from the tyres. called the local council saying an illegal car had been dumped on the public highway and was casuing an obstruction. they came and removed it the same day.

haven't seen the car since.

Result indeed. But, how do you know they saw it?

Could also have been another nosey neighbour.

Sorry but I cant condone criminal damage, especially as there may have been a reason it was left there.

where's the criminal damage then? did anything get broken? all 4 valves were left with the note on the windscreen. don't you need a witness for criminal damage? I didn't steal anything.

you park in the wrong place anywhere in the UK and you run the risk of the consequences. people down our road are sick and tired of people blocking access to their drive's on a daily basis. we have decided to act on this from now on. I am out at work all day. part of my job is to try and find somewhere to park in order to do my work. (I am a heating engineer). the last thing I intend to do when I get home after 14 hours on the road, is to have to find somewhere to park outside my house.

tough.

Without knowing the full circumstances I have no more to add.

A few.
Where I live there are two routes between the two closest towns, Route 1 is a nationally known A road with speed limits of 50 & 40mph, Route 2 is a narrowish twisty B road with 3 or 4 numbers after the 'B'. IIRC Route 1 used to be 60mph the entire trip & had overtaking spots, which have been removed & replaced by a 20 foot wide section of diagonal lines with about 20 bollards in the middle of it.

I have pretty much given up on the A road out of sheer frustration, tired of being stuck behind motorists like the OP who ignore speed limits & drive at a speed they feel comfy with, usually under 40, the whole length of the road. Quite common to see a queue of 20 or 30 cars going down this Roman road at 35 - 38 mph in a bumper to bumper convoy, held up by one person seemingly oblivious to traffic conditions, the traffic around them & other motorists.

"For the prosecution to prove the offence of driving without reasonable consideration, it must show that other road users were inconvenienced by the defendant’s driving, although this can be proved by inference. Other road users can include passengers in the defendant’s car. Cases have included keeping headlights undimmed, flashing of lights, driving through puddles at speed, misuse of lanes in queue jumping, unnecessarily slow driving, braking without good cause, or driving a bus in such a way as to alarm passengers."

Is this a long road? There are always hold ups on busy roads, if not a motorist then a lorry, tractor etc. Tolerance is all that's needed. and 35-38 in a 40 section is ok in my opinion.

Its all part of the grand plan (user participation) to subconsciously slow traffic, motorway 50mph average speed etc, making progress is a thing of the past, unless you,re prepared in the most part to travel out of hours

Plenty of villages round here with cars parked on one side ,ample room still for 2 way traffic but the car in front seems convinced he,s really a wide load and stops until all approaching traffic has gone past

The problem is most speedos over read by 3 or 4mph,some more.

When you take that into consideration then your 35mph becomes 31 but that isn't the real bugbear of drivers, its the fact slower drivers don't seem to be able to hold speed or read the road ahead so everyone behind them tends to be up and down the box and on and off the brakes, often for no reason at all.

You also have to consider that only 6% of accidents are caused by speeding drivers, that leaves you wondering who IS causing them.

Yes but this is nothing new, and if you get past one hold up or slow vehicle then you soon catch up another in my experience. not maintaining a speed is a little annoying I agree as you cant just set cruise and chill.
As for accidents consider people pulling out of junctions into oncoming cars, driving to close and colliding with the vehicle in front, overtaking approaching a bend etc. Frustration may cause someone to try and overtake where they shouldn't, but that is their fault not the slow driver in front.
Just my views of course.

Just to be clear: I never drive at 'usually under 40' unless observing a speed limit.

I would not want to drive at the speed limit set on some of the roads near me, so with a 60mph limit I would never drive at 60 all the time as some bends are very steep, add the rain and leaves into it and never. sure on an open road where you can see for a long way is OK but no point if I am going to have to brake hard at the first bend. I generally drive so that I do not have to use the brakes, but then if a car in front is doing say 35mph on an open road and is smaller than my car, my car will tend to roll down slopes and gather speed, so I have to keep braking.

A better contemporaneous example to use to disprove the 'speed kills' nonsense would be Tim Peake who is currently travelling at 17,500mph. He will be at a 'walking pace' of 17,500 mph on 15th January :D:D

There you have it, 4hrs 27mins at 17,500 mph, 1362812500 miles in space and not killed. Speed DOES NOT kill.:D:D

Helmet obviously made by Mercedes as it leaks for the US astronaut. :D:D
