I am serously considering buying a Merc 190E i've seen, 2.0L petrol, auto box, 1986 D reg, genuine 47000 miles, most service history and all in total absolutely immac cond.

Is there anything in particular I should be looking for? gearbox, suspension, engine etc.

The asking price is £2K. I cant see anything advertised like this (year & mileage etc) Does this sound like a fair price?

What sort of mpg could I expect, I am not a racer?:D

From my understanding they are easy and cheap to repair, is this right?

Any advice will be greatly received

Andy

personally i always get the very best when buying a car im going to keep (leather, air con, electric windows, electric sunroof, pas ect. ect. ect.) as otherwise you will spend the whole time you own the car looking to add the extra bits or lusting after cars that do have it and will always be wanting

then again ive wanted a w124 twin turbo coupe and when i got one in march 2007 ive still to drive it!

My In-laws have an old 190e 2.0L auto as a second car. It has covered W-A-Y over 140,000 miles and other than a few rust patches and dents etc. and an interior that needs cleaning (hope your reading this Terry) it purrs like a dream!

140k is diddly for these cars. A good one, looked after is well worth 300k miles +

The 190 does not rust particularly and is probably the best MB of its age. Lube the wiper and try to find one with aircon.

£2000 though for a 1986D even with only 47k seems a bit pricey. I would hold out for a later model with air and if poss, leather.
