Well I know what happened .. They didn't sell enough so the models got mothballed and added as a top end S Class.
But the 57 and 62 (pictured) are amazing cars inside, the 62 especially. Just look at the interior.. For a 2005 model it is very plush and spacious with great features and looks more like the innards of a private jet than a car. Compare that to the 2019 RR Phantom (Limousine), which looks more like the back seat of just another nice car, which admittedly it is.
I know I might be a bit biased as I am a bit tight and prefer older and cheaper cars, but I know what one I would be picking if I was going to be getting driven around.
So I ask again, what happened? Did the market just rather the better known branding of Bentley and Rolls Royce over a Maybach or what? I remember Jeremy Clarkson said "Just get the Rolls and be done with it"
Or were they just a bit before their time?
Anyway, it's a bit of shame because the Maybach S650 doesn't do Maybach justice imho.
2005 Maybach 62 - £59,000 Link.
As an added bonus, it's too heavy to be lifted if illegally parked
2019 Phantom - £364,900 Link.
