Great long distance cars. Drove a V6 Exclusive from Moraira on the Costa Blanca to Calais (predominantly main roads, some motorways to avoid town centres) in 15hours and could have turned round and driven back immediately.
Actually did drive the car back to Spain within 24 hours but that's another story .
Absolutely faultless apart from dropping badly out of tune over the course of the initial 1100 odd mile trip
Couldn't do that now with all the sneaky speed cameras

We knew you didn’t bin anything,
Did catch myself looking at an XM estate the other day, then realised I actually have no mechanical experience so wouldn’t be any use me trying to bring it back to life

Very wise move Grasshopper.......;)

Yes they are certainly a comfortable tourer. I had a couple of BX's and even those weren't too bad for long distances. Had to be leather trim thought :)

I may have brought this up before, but thought it might be interesting to hear how you first decided to buy a Mercedes and have you been generally happy with that decision?

I more or less decided I would own one the day I first landed in Abu Dhabi in 1998 to meet up with my sister who has lived there since 1978. My brother in law arrived to pick me up in a W124 Tanzanite Blue S500 with cream leather and the luxury and power of this car was something new to me.
Coming from a noisy, hard riding Sierra Sapphire Cosworth which I thought was the dogs danglies I had my eyes opened to a whole new world of car ownership.
That was when I vowed I'd have one, not necessarily an S class, but a Mercedes and in 2003 I was the owner of my first, a W210 E280 Avantgarde.

A great car, so much so that I bought another newer facelifted one, then decided a quick one was due so moved into my W211 E55K in 2013. After 6 great years with that car I finally got the car I had been after for years, the current E63 Biturbo. Zero regrets with this one too, and although I have been tempted by a couple of the offerings of Audi, I'm happy to be in the car I now have.
How about you?
:)

Must’ve been a moment of madness, bought a CLK 350, Black Elegance, electric everything, there’s the problem. But its shiny and fun, and its back at the dealers again after the door locks started ‘machine gunning’, the rear deck flap on the drivers side fell off and the alignment was slightly off, only about 5 degrees to the right but i is annoying. Anyways, I
am quite good at wielding spanner’s hammers and cups of coffee, so I‘m not too afraid of it. Also, I saw someone on one of the five forums I ‘m on for Mercs, asking about rumpled material hanging ou the sides of the rear window, found the answer on YouTube! Easy Fix!!!

It was the door actually ................. just opened it and climbed in!!!

Now seriously needed a lower car than the Discovery as Mother simply cannot get into it so it's up for sale was not initially looking at Mercedes but for a nice Rover 75 to replace the one lost in a collision just over 2 years ago found what looked to be and sounder like a nice 2.0 KV6 manual one but the dealer said it could not be sold for a couple of weeks as they were waiting on a sensor that needed replacing. Well a couple of weeks passed and the advert disappeared and did not reappear and finding nice 75's is very hard here. So started looking at other marques and stumbled across an ad for a C200 Kompressor that looked good however the language barrier proved to be impassable but that got me looking at Mercedes. Of course sods law struck as the day after I bought this C22 CDI estate that Rover 75 2.0 KV6 manual popped back up for sale!!!!

But the C200 is a nice car to drive especially now the knocks from the front suspension have been dealt with, roll bar bushes and LHS lower suspension arm replaced, engine and gearbox serviced and gear changes are much smoother now and gears select and engage in the cold mornings now and once we find out what hydraulic fluid is required but the automatic gear change on this 6 speed manual box and get it changed it will be even better.

What got me into a Mercedes? Well, a couple of things actually - German Engineering (aka quality, reliability, luxury) to start with and the fact that Mercedes has been my families car of choice for decades, so family tradition as well :)

What keeps me with a Mercedes, simply the quality and reliability of the car together with a price that equates to the quality. Until such time as the Mercedes brand becomes little more than just another car maker, I will stay with them :)

What got me into Mercedes? It varies but most notable I was 16 in high school and i just needed any car and found a $600 1990 Mercedes 300te estate and bought it as one of my first cars! Since then I’ve stuck happily with Mercedes because they have been the best cars I’ve had the quality, the performance, the durability! Spend the money you’ll never regret it!

Was a car jockey at a few casinos when I was a student...always loved the quality of a Mercedes....though it was also the first car I ever had to park, on an incline and couldn't find the handbrake, older one, D shape thing that pulled out of the dash I seem to remember?

They're an acquired taste the MB handbrakes aren't they! No good for handbrake turns
