Haha! Never thought of that! No, the last we saw was it accelerating* up the M1 northbound hard shoulder before bouncing a good 10 metres high off a drain cover and going well into the verge.

(* a wheel thus released will actually accelerate)

Fitted four of these to replace the locking ones: -

Wheel Bolt.jpg

As they're hidden behind a threaded hub cap, which needs a special adaptor to remove it, coupled with the fact that the car spends most of it's life in my locked and alarmed garage anyway, I figured that the risk of having a set of wheels stolen was minimal compared to the hassle of a locking wheel bolt letting go. The wheel nut key is already starting to slip a bit on the bolts and was becoming difficult to tighten to the required 150Nm.

Bought directly from Mercedes, total cost of £25.30. I could have bought from elsewhere a couple of quid cheaper possibly but know that these are genuine so hopefully won't shear at the first attempt to undo them. So far so good as they're all now in place...

I know that I take the wheels off far too often but it looks nice with the backs of them clean, along with the brakes, hubs and suspension. :D

Personally I never tighten the lockers to the 150 nm required as most just won’t stand up to it, the other four bolts yes but, the locker is always just tight enough not to loosen itself.

Took the E55 out for a good run, got it all up to temperature and made sure it all worked, put some more of Shell’s finest in it, then just got a bit carried away. View attachment 67230
£80 later and home for lunch...

Stuck on the M40 for awhile due to a pickup rearranging the scenery, so not up to usual standards. :(

Took it out. :)

Not too far but I had to go for my second Pfizer vaccination this morning so, as it was a relatively bright morning, I went in the Mercedes. I only managed about 12 miles in total but it was just a nice pleasant change to use it and remember why I bought it in the first place. I also put some fuel in it for the first time this year. It didn't take a great amount but it'll hopefully keep what was in there fresh. The other car's not had any put in it since last August, so that is now going to be my next challenge.

Roll on normality when we can hopefully get to a few decent car meets again...

Put the 212 on charge for a couple of hours, its not moved or started since the end of September.
Using the 172 to run about in, & the FJR1300 is back on the road as well.

Update on my w203 C270cdi suspected boost leak...
I was right, it was a boost leak but I had not suspected that it was the intercooler...

On the RHS outlet from the pipe it looks like it blew the welds and you can see that the charged air blew back the protective rubber channeling flaps, now curled the wrong way. £170 all in to replace the intercooler however while it was all off I got a little more bad news. Looks like there is an oil leak coming from the turbo which means it is probably only a matter of time before the turbo grenades...but at least for now I have a happier and drivable car.

Have just put about 200miles of country-lane spirited driving on it, with some hard acceleration to clear the over-burn out of the cat.

Sorted out the boot handle on the r230. All back to normal aside from an accident related issue with the inner right rear parking sensor.

Took it for a top down run out after finishing it. Lovely. So nice to have it back.

Finished washing and vacuuming the car at around 1.30pm. Since that time I have had to wash Seagull poo off of it twice. It seems the poo season is now in full swing  :(

That's 3.9mpg better than I get from a diesel Blobcat, what are you feeding her
I don’t brake for anything other than UFO’s... ;)
Costco fuel is what I normally partake of as it’s cheap and good.
