It certainly smells like atf and not engine oil. I need to pull the sills off and see how bad this rust really is before doing any more maintenance. It's already had an engine oil change and mounts.

I found a 5p sized rust hole underneath the drivers carpet. Must have had blocked drains before.

I don't mind doing rust repair but it needs to be done sooner rather than later.

Managed to purchase
A 2nd hand Gear Knob to replace my damage one
Also picked up both sets of front headlamps as mine are suffering from oxidation and will fail next years MoT
Sourced a rear boot lid maybe to replace scratched existing one

Try and fit them all next week

I was aware there was a process and seen on you tube some videos but seems to take a very long time to carry out? I may try the 3m idea if I have time
However I managed to procure bot sets of headlights for the sun of £55 inc post

It only takes 30mins to an hour to polish your headlights with the 3m kit, it's very easy

Halfords do a Meguiars kit.

You can also hand rub with 1500, 2000 and 3000 grade wet and dry (wet) and finish with brasso, scratch remover and UV resistant clear coat.

Connected a bluetooth receiver to the AUX port on my R230 SL500 so that i can listen to Spotify, TuneIn radio and my music albums all from my phone. It works very well with decent sound quality but only time will tell on how reliable it is.

Just be careful if you polish it out with a power tool... I had a 4WD and the previous owner had polished the headlamps - but he polished them so much that the nearside one had a small hole in it!

Heh heh... but it went through two MOTs with with a bit of paper stuck over it!

Yes that will work fine, just make sure you don't use to much pressure, you don't need much if any, and don't spin your drill to fast. It's a pretty easy process

Purchased the 3G I’ll try it on the headlights worse case I cock it up and replace them with the spares I have bought
Also need to do the same on the Porsche as again headlights are oxidised

Just brought it back from a little meet at Stoneleigh Abbey in Warwickshire. It was originally an SLK thing but was opened up to include all Mercedes models. A good turnout with nearly 40 cars attending, mostly modern but a few nice classics as well.

I was going to go in my 190E but the weather was poor so took the E Class, which won a little trophy for best saloon.

Glad I didn't take the 190 as there were a couple of Pontons there which would have embarrassed it somewhat, but not as much as the Grosser and SEC wide-body which Jay Manek from Mercland rolled up in. Awesome cars.
