CLS 350cdi (C218) 2012 / OM642
Drove mate up to Leeds and back on the weekend to buy a 2019 Tesla Model X P100D. Really easy ride up in the CLS 350cdi , attempted to be fuel efficient and managed more than 50mpg there and back on the motorway sections (who can avoid blasting it between roundabouts in MK?)
Also, the CLS hit 100k over the weekend which means I have done 6k since Jan just driving evenings and weekends. Getting close to Service and MOT time so needs to run it through a pre-MOT check and ensure it will go through fine and dandy.

Back from MSL Birmingham, my cls63 was stage1 remapped by the previous owner, bang’s, pop’s and many other noises, quite jumpy on revs and brutal in changing gears…in few words: a joke ! Andrew deleted everything, latest software version installed, original maps and now is stock, driving like a dream, smooth.

Would have thought it would perform and sound nice at stock! Looks lovely BTW.

Good move Alex. There is always that nagging doubt that something could let go on a remapped engine no matter who has done it.
I wouldn't have one of those pop's and bang's tunes if you paid me. Sounds awful.

Further on down the line the car will be easier to sell as stock too.
Ask me how I know:oops:

You’re 100% right, with all that noise I felt like one of those boy racers. My wife said I should stop embarrassing myself and get rid of the car . Yesterday night I was looking in all the car paperwork and I found the invoice from the “tuning company “ who did it. Someone has paid £900 for that joke

Wow. Wasn't DMS was it?
I heard they overcharge for remaps.
MSL is £700 including before and after dyno runs and you know he has done it right.

Was the previous owner a young guy?
Sort of fits with the pops and bangs map:cool::D

Didn't have much, problem selling yours, Roger, nice motors will always sell, (and yours was a nice motor) map or not, methinks. :)

Dropped it off for the rebuild on the handbrake (never use it) so I can get it re-tested for it's MOT.

Borrowed the Mothers Indigolight Blue S204 C250CGi for the day, really like it, punchy engine

Tyres, oil and water checked, clean the front seats and rubbed some compound over the faded headlights before a trip to Towcester from Heathrow on Friday for a wedding. Mpg dropped to 36 as we were late. The missus drove back Saturday to Southbourne, 38mpg then home on Monday back to Heathrow and managed 46mpg. She will not use the cruise control. (2004 S211 E320 CDI).

considering re-trimming my W212 saloon in an opulent white leather - anyone done a full retrim inc seats, carpets and door cards? if so any contacts?

it doesn't need it as the seats are like new - but fancy a change of colour
Hotspur I retrimmed (not myself mind) a Triumph Stag I used to own into cream leather from brown vinyl. It was stunning and smelt beautiful! Got the photo's somewhere! It was done by Martrim in Sandbach, in business for years, real perfectionists. It was not cheap mind and I'm going back to 2003 and trimming a very simple car!

Well not quite today, but washing the SL (last of R230 registered in Jan 2012) recently, I decided to move the wipers to the service position so that I could lift them off the screen for a really good clean.
Drivers side no problem. Passenger side really stiff - just thought it was a very strong spring until there was a loud crack and the casting on the mechanism at the bottom broke!
It was now apparent that the spring was seized in the fully contracted position and would not stretch when lifting the wiper arm.
Damn, I will need to get a new one, I thought.
Turns out part is no longer available - on a 10 year old car.
So I have had to scrap it at 38,000 miles because I can’t get a windscreen wiper component.........

Only kidding - managed to get a used one from the very nice chaps at R129.com for just under £100 posted so all happy and back in love with the car again.
Might just buy the other two that they show in stock, just in case.

Not displeased with this at all considering.

Not so happy about this:

Now most people's initial thoughts would be tracking is out (but it's not).
Then under inflation (it wasn't)...
Interestingly there was about a cupful of 2ater inside the tyre (and for the life of me I can't see how that much would get there).
What's actually happened is the carcass is delaminating from the steel belts under the tread. You can slide your hand between the belts and the carcass for about half the tyre width.

Chinese ditchfinders? No thanks.
To be fair, the tracking is a mile out as well, so that can’t have helped
