Started the estate up yesterday and thought it was a bit lumpy at tick-over but drove away ok, three miles down the road it started a DPF regeneration (so must have been the DPF back pressure) and as I was only travelling 4 miles to destination thought I’d take a detour to let the regen take it’s course and finish - a bit of a pain but needs must as I’m only doing very short runs at the moment.
What a disaster these cars are to owners who don’t understand the workings of EU5/6 emissions, without taking the car for a run the DPF would have been trying to regen multiple times leading to all sorts of complications, it’s easy to tell when the OM642 starts a regen but not so easy with other smaller engines I still think a regen light (in green) on the dash or just regen started prompt on the dash would be a big help to most

Do you mind sharing what that cost please? I've had a quote for £600 ish
No probs. Car is 2011 S350L W221 with 58,750 miles

Genuine MB engine mounts (2) and transmission mount = £374.32 (discount price from MB Grangemouth)
Labour and consumables by Mertec (Kent) Ltd = £239.86

Just finished changing the E class power steering fluid , I thought I would start with the harder car (the CLK looks to have easier pipe access ) .
I ended up having to remove the air filter box on the side of the om642 as well as the air intake tube to the front of the car . The coolant tank I released from its bracket so it had a bit of movement .
All this was to allow access for a small tub below the overflow tank as well as the return pipe clic-r clamp which needed undoing .
I jacked the car up at the front so there was no pressure on the steering as a refilled the overflow , with the old fluid coming out of the return pipe (plenty of stuff on YouTube for this method) .
I used 1.5L of fluid in the process ( I bought 3L to do both cars) .
Here are the shots of old fluid and new . Car was 2009 with 129k on the fluid

About two years ago I decided to change the rear shockabsorbers drop links and ARB bushes because they were the original ones not because of any problems. Well events over took that idea and it wasn't until the last couple of days that they actually got changed and indeed they seemed to have plenty of life left in them. The shockers had plenty of resistance to bump and rebounded well, the only thing was a split in both of the bottom rubber bushes. The drop links and ARB bushes look fit for more use. The ARB itself need a clean and a coat of anti-rust (ha, ha) primer and black paint more for my satisfaction than any long term change.
A clean up around the back and some paint to complete and was well pleased. Next day I though I'd wash the front suspension and check over but was greeted with a smashed front fog lamp, how long it was like that I've no idea. So after a bit of "light" (like that?) wheel arch liner removal to check the part number I located one for €80 even though all I needed was a glass lens!
So finishing off today the car decided to exercise me by telling be the rear number plate lamp was gone.
Can't upload any photos as they seem to be too BIG!

Forgot to mention Voles shouldn't play mechanics' when the engine is running. He did have plenty of guts though!

Got a bottle of touch up paint, to touch in a few chips and rust spots. And a few more. Oh, and those ones too. Ah yes, and these ones as well. And while I'm at it, may as well tackle a few others. Having said that, there's some here too. And here. And here. And over there. And...

... actually I think I'll just throw the bottle away and let it rust...

Spray painted the aftermarket tow-hook cover to match the rest of the lower grille. And as a start to diagnosing the lack of cruise control operation, poked about around the throttle body to ensure all linkages were connected; they were. Then fiddled about with the ECU connections - just in case, as I understand that c/control electronics are in the ECU in 1995 and later cars.

Spray painted the 55's rear wheel arches with an aerosol can, then sprayed them with clear from another aerosol can. 3 weeks to wait before I can cut and polished it o_O

Extremely professional finish, can I ask if the arches were a bit crusty? Or just preventative

Thank you :D
They were starting to show paint flaking, so a bit of preventative maintenance there.
I did these roughly 4 years ago for the same reason, still had the original aerosol can 1/4 full of paint. I think it is a 3-4 yearly, keep on top of the rusty r230 rear wheel arch programme ;)
If I had been thinking clearly, I would have bought 2 new cans and sprayed the entire rear panels instead of just the arches

I Fancied a CLK, bought an SL350
Washed, Autoglym Shampoo, clayed, Bilt Hamber medium, light protection, Sonax Brilliant Shine detailer. Hoping to treat some chips and those pesky arch bubbles. Haven't decided on winter protection yet.....any recommendations? Otherwise repeat Carlack68.
