What is CLK Cabriolet security like?

Hi. I've just ordered a new CLK 200K Cabriolet Elegance with a host of extras. It's my first prestige car and as it's a soft-top, I'm slightly worried about security. Perhaps I'm just being paranoid. How have other Mercedes soft-top owners found security leaving the car in an exposed area?

I don't have a garage yet so I'm interested to know what the chances are of having security problems with a car left on the driveway and visible to the public in the middle of a small Dorset town.

Is the immobiliser unbeatable by most or all thieves? What about the wheels?

Let me know if you've had any problems and, preferably, if you haven't had any, to set my mind at rest.

Thanks!

If some ned wants to slash your convertible roof, he will. If you don't have a convertible roof, he'll slash your tyres instead.

Thankfully, most of use will never have this unfortunate experience. Security on these is top class, don't worry there. They do (usually) come with locking wheel nuts as standard, but if you are worried about them, get a second set and don't leave the unlocking piece stored somewhere obvious in the car.

At this point, you are worrying about what if's. All of these thoughts will be banished the first time you pick her up, get the roof down and enjoy your hard earned "prize".

Good luck and welcome.

Yeah, you're right actually, tyre-slashing is probably a good parallel.

With a few security precautions it should be fine.

Thanks for the reassurance. I can't wait to pick it up.

I can add here that my SL has been OK parked around Dorset, and other places for that matter, the movement sensors are very good. Good idea from Brett with extra wheel bolts, but the slightest movement and the alarm goes off. Do people still steal wheels ?.
Nice car I sat in one last week in Exeter, some car that.

The second set of bolts came about for me because when I had the TT there were only ten different combinations of locking wheel nuts supplied by Audi. Not only that, if you wanted to, you could go into any Audi dealer and buy all ten variations of the locking key. Many TT owners were finding their cars sitting on their axles in the morning even though the wheels had been "locked". Many of the other TT Forum members ended up investing in a second set of locking bolts to prevent their wheels being nicked. Oh yeah, and the volume of the alarm on a TT is pathetic.
