Don't forget guys, if we want to cut emissions to zero it's not only cars / trucks / busses , it's aircraft / railway locomotives / building site equipment eg dump trucks / earth moving vehicles, the list goes on. How on earth are we going to produce the electricity. Please don't anyone go on about Hydrogen cells etc as it will take years to perfect it and we haven't got the time, as our government has stated there will be no more ICE's manufactured after 2030 in this country, although I think that might change somewhat in the near future. As they say watch this space. :(
Actually you would be far better getting rid of woodburning stoves;

Smoke from wood-burning stoves and open fires plays a substantial role in contributing to London’s air pollution problem. According to one study, wood-burning accounts for between 23 and 31% of urban derived particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution in London.

Even the best government approved stoves still emit air pollution, the Air Quality Expert Group found that burning wood in an Ecodesign stove was similar to the emissions from six Euro V1 HGVs.

Define “emissions”.

Particulates? If so, which ones? As different types (and particle weights/ density can float at different altitudes for different durations, and so reflect or absorb more sunlight dependent, thus contributing to or reducing warming).

Gases? CO2? CH4? NO2? The first two are greenhouse gases, the third a biohazard.

There are big differences between emissions that adversely affect health, and those that affect planetary climate…

Good point. But how would the government tax the wood. I have friends that collect wood from various places, work etc that would probably go into landfill.
If you work in a manual environment there's plenty of it knocking about. :)

Possibly; but if the government of the day is struggling to provide an adequate number of charging points and/or adequate public transport then the ICE's life may be extended.
i think thats guaranteed ! some places in this country still havent got a decent mobile phone signal and how long have we had mobiles ??

Most manufacturers are giving 8 to 10 years battery warranty. I would hazard a guess that, as batteries get better and cheaper, there will be cheaper replacements for original ones in 8 years time, just like replacing an auto trans or motor in a used car. Costs will not be a lot different. Meantime, much money saved in maintenance and fuel costs.
warranty you say ? even with one you can struggle to get any action out of a dealer , they are a law unto themselves

Electricity runs so much else as well as charging your EV so taxing it will be a problem.

For some, they work very well and are cheap to run.

Unfortunately, a lot of the world's Fossil Fuel energy is currently supplied by ghastly people.

We need our own and not this fake green nonsense with woodpellets.
ive been told theres at least a 100 years worth of coal under the Yorkshire area and you are bang on about wood pellet emissions , its all bunkam

surely it wood ! be better if there were not so many people in London ? the figures taken from there always look worse because of the density of people exposed

There’s more than that - right under the power stations… “zero miles…”

Apparently, synthetic fuel is coming up on the rails or should I say pumps.

Porsche is supposed to be producing in Chile this year..

They are, and carbon neutral - which is why they’re making it in Chile - lots of wind and solar power as it takes a fair bit of energy to make hydrocarbons
