Just wait till 6 years when the batteries cant be charged anymore and the cost to replace is more than that of the car....
You mean to say you won't have traded it at 3 years for a new one...:shock::shock::eek::eek::eek:

Don't you realise you can only save the environment by replacing you car every 3 years...

No doubt this will be engineered to manipulate consumer actions further.

Most manufacturers are giving 8 to 10 years battery warranty. I would hazard a guess that, as batteries get better and cheaper, there will be cheaper replacements for original ones in 8 years time, just like replacing an auto trans or motor in a used car. Costs will not be a lot different. Meantime, much money saved in maintenance and fuel costs.

I'm not sure that EVs are cheaper to maintain than ICEVs; certainly a couple of friends who have EVs complain about the number of times that they have to go to the dealer with, often, software or firmware, problems. One loves his EV when it works, but advises us all to hold off buying an EV for a few years until the manufacturers can produce a better product.

I’m not convinced the money saved argument is true.

How many miles would you need to cover to recoup the cost difference of the EV over its ICE equivalent?

The Government is still reeling the bait, once it’s got enough people into EVs, let’s see how cheap the electricity and tax is moving forwards.

Yes I’m sure battery life and maintenance options will get better but just like all the manipulation and green bullshit, manufacturers will have triggers and lockdowns to determine service life and ease of replacement.

They’d better start getting some toddlers onto their pay rolls too as 95% of modern car designs are just lumps of eye sore turds. What blind twits sit back thinking yep, if that broke down, I’d be happy staring at it all day regardless.

Fairly sure that the MD of Volvo / Polstar has publicly stated its around the 50,000 mile mark to tip the overall environmental scales in favor of the EV over an ICE.

Unsure about the consumer £ recouping

You do wonder what a modern EV service is going to be and why.

The likes of Uber with their driverless car fleets won't be falling for the crazy system.

The car will be going in when it needs to as everything will be remotely monitored.

Yet your local dealership will be charging hundreds to park it at their premises and receive a download.

Bearing in mind the present state of the world, I'd say there's a fair chance there will be significant numbers of ICE powered cars availablle in Europe 2030. Unfortunately choice could well be limited to Ladas, or for plebs such as myself recycled Trabants..
Thinking positively, at least new prices should be low, and used cars given away!

God help us, but ur more likely to get to /from a conflict in a lada than a benz. Sbs 1 day to go message not very encouraging message on dash. Nor is turn key, visit f workshop!!!!!!! Or stand-in at back of car waitin on mobilo or reading 400 page book on use of spare wheel which finishes up with "go to www.Mercedes benz. Com just as the shooting starts!!

There were plenty of 1st gen Renault Zoe and Nissan Leaf cars available dirt cheap a as their batteries needed replacing, I believe Renault were doing it on a leasing scheme, £5k cost plus rent.
That said, there are still Tesla Model S from 2012 driving around with 70% or more capacity left and as a result are holding second hand values high, plenty available from 2014-2015 which were improved and should still have many years on the batteries (some being resold with batteries replaced under warranty which are of interest).
Personally I still think it is a risk, and I would not consider leasing a normal ICE car in general, but if I was going electric, I would think about it.

Afaik ice engine cars will not be sold new from 2030. I guess the government will try bend people fingers back wards to huddle them into electric cars but I see a market for ICE cars as they will continue to exist. They just work better for some people better than an electric option and or are favoured by enthusiast types.

I think retro/specialist stuff will become more in demand as all the lesser stuff around it starts to dwindle in numbers.

Nail on head. There are already so called experts crawling from under their rocks calling for a tyre tax on EV’s!

I don’t believe the push for smart meters is a coincidence nor advertisements for bank apps which “monitor your carbon footprint”.

I really need to buy a desert island ASAP and get there while us plebs are still allowed to fly!

There is some rot talked about EVs, “a friend of a friend” or “I heard” etc. we’ve a five year old i3 EV range varies on temperature (95 in winter, 130 in summer) it’s not broken down or had a software meltdown, but it’s just used as a shopping/errands car. There’s the daily diesel or SL for longer trips - I’m thinking of selling the diesel and i3 and buying a longer legged EV later in the year. On topic - I think essence of dead dinosaur juice is going to keep going up, and we’re going to keep buying it. It will take ten years plus for the ICE cars sold in the late twenties to age out. I’d expect that more towns and cities will designate LEZs that favour EVs, and eventually it could be OEM as antisocial as smoking is to own one and that motorways will dictate autonomous driving only so will kinda force longer trips to be in newer cars.

I’d be dammed if I trust a car programmed some bod in a white cot to drive me around! It’s all good until the algorithm comes across a situation it can’t deal with.
