I have recently bought a 92 300td well i think it is! , its a 3ltr 6 cyl diesel and on the back it says 300td ,however on the log book it says 300te are they they the same? if not which is it and whats the difference, the vin is wdb1241902f240115
i would appreciate any information,
While im in typing mood:D i recently posted on the forum my gearbox problem which is " the autobox has a realy unsmooth gear change, likened to droping the clutch in a manual box ,ive noticed that the revs drop 800rpm to1000rpm in each change. when i last posted i was told to chech the vacum pipe to the gearbox, this has been checked and seams ok ( the tiny pipe that goes to the gear box.Is there any more?:rolleyes: )
well as before any advice would be great.

Hi marra,

Your car is a 300TD (3L Touring Diesel), the 300TE is a 3L (petrol) Touring <kraut word for fuel injection beginning with E>
T=Estate
D=diesel
E=Injected

As I am so pedantic it does my box in when I see people say "I've got a 300TE diesel" :mad: Unfortunately even the DVLA have taken TE to mean Estate.

Anyway, the harsh changes are almost definitely due to a vacuum problem, have a read of my answer on this thread http://www.forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=27468
His is the previous model to yours but the vac system is the same. On yours however the spacing of the changes (how early/late it changes up) is determined my the pressure control cable (aka kickdown cable) but the 'firmness' is still determined by vacuum.

Good luck mate, let us know how you get on.

PS. Where are you, if you're up here I'll hay a skeck!

Then we are lucky that the 300TDT did not come to the UK, as that would have been the final straw
