Hi ppl,

I am writing on behalf of a friend. Basically my friend owns a 190E auto, his car has been left standing for about 2 months and after jump starting then trying to put it into drive the car will cut out as if there is a lack of power to the engine.

I am not sure if the jump leads that helped started the car were still connected when putting the car into gear, but i am assuming they were off.

If they were off then i assume the reason for the engine to die is because there isn't enough power to be able to put the auto gearbox into drive/gear. But if the jump leads were still on then obviously this could be a bigger problem.

If anyone knows what exactly is causing this or this is a common problem and knows how to rectify this, than any help would be most appreciated.

Sounds like the battery is knackered, a fresh battery should fix the problem.

Did the engine idle OK when not in gear and without the leads attached?

Best to run it until everything is warmed up and running freely before trying to put it in gear.

Sorry as I said before this is my friend's car, so I don't have that much details about it when they jump started.

I know my friend is going to put a new battery in tomorrow & see if it will go into drive with the new battery in without problems.

Will get an update tomorrow hopefully and I will keep you lot posted.

Many thanks,

grinny20800.
