I've just bought my 1st merc. It was a private buy for a 53 plate C180K coupe. Date of 1st reg was sept 2003 so it still has 4 months warranty left on it.

What I want to know is what that includes?
Its due a B service in about 400 miles and was wandering if that is included? If not how much would it be approx.

Nope, the warranty covers repairs, that it.
Servicing costs vary wildly so call your local dealer and indies and compare prices. I would assume £300-400 from the dealer and around £200 from the indie.

THe MB warranty does not cover service items as per jberks. However if something like a shock absorber or brake disc fails prematurely then the warranty may cover it. Although it can depend upon your relationship with the dealer and your ability to complain.

Tyres are firmly wear and tear. Unless they've prematurely failed in some way, I'd say not. On a 2 1/2 year old car, I'd have to say not a chance. Most cars need tyres by then. (mine will be needing its 3rd set of rears and 2nd set of fronts by the time its 2 years old so consider yourself lucky!)

If everything works properly, nothing has broken or snapped off and there are no unusual noises, then everything that needs doing is classed as normal wear and tear and is down to you, so you aren't going to benefit from the warranty. You can ask the dealer to give the car the once over whilst the warranty still stands but beware as they quoted me £200 for this 'service'.

If you don't want to your throw money away, book it in to your local Merc indie who will service it properly and advise if anything wants doing whilst it's still under warranty. If there is anything, you can then book it into the dealer to have the warranty work done and either way you've established a valuable relationship with an indie and saved a couple of hundred pounds which will go a long way to replacing your tyres!

An independant garage not part of the official Mercedes Dealer Network. You want to find one with MB trained technicians and which specialise in the marque.

Get the service done before end of warranty. If it is any consolation my experience is that an MB dealer will not find any faults and leave them undetected....he will however find plenty next time after the car is out of warranty when in fact if he had done the service properly he would have spotted them.

A good indie, a very through inspection and a full report, then hit MB with whatever he finds. I nailed MB because we were able to argue the dealer was negligent and incompetent but yopu need a bit of knowledge and neck..
