Hi all, New to this forum so please excuse my lack of knowledge on its use. So, the story is, I have just bought my son a 2005 C220 CDI which doesn't have a dipstick just a red plug on the dipstick tube. I have been told that you can either access the oil level menu via the dash controls or you can purchase a dipstick. After much searching I have not managed to find out if this is true but if anyone could point me in the right direction I would most grateful...shaun

2005 C270CDi Avantgarde Estate. Bought 2005, sold 2022.
This is how you get it to show in the dash - there's a bit of a nack to doing it, but once you get it, it works OK.

I'm not aware there's a standard dipstick available, although don't know for sure. I believe the dealers use a workshop one that covers many models but can't be left in (as it's too long).

My 209 with the same engine is exactly the same. I've got used to checking using the electronic display, even when servicing. My understanding is there isn't a permanent dipstip available for this car and in any case you'd have to pull off the plastic engine cover every time to use it.

Sady been an issue in many mercs since 2000's
You can buy a calibrated rod to dip and measure engine oil level. Such a rod is not to be left in the "dipstick tube". Only for measuring.
I got one years ago from ebay. You need
to know the reading levels for the car (max and min), usually supplied with the rod or ask a friendly dealer/indy for the relevant star printout page.
