Hi,

The engine oil level monitor on my W202 220 CDi informs me that I should add 1 litre of oil to the engine. The service record indicatesthat 10W40 was used at the last service. However, neither the Owners Manual or the Service Booklet gives specific advice on which grade of oil to use. Is 10W40 appropriate ? I live in Central Scotland where the winters are not as cold as they used to be. Just longer.

Thanks,Kevin

I've always been told by me Dad to replace like with like so choose a good brand of 10W40 and you shouldn't go far wrong.

The book should give an MBxxx.x spec for the oil (in the section that lists all the technical data by engine type) - get one that lists the same spec on the bottle.

Kev,
If 10w40 was used last service - then stick with it, also check the type - ie synthetic (which is best)
