I am looking for a Mercedes estate. I want to pay up to £1500. Can anyone please tell me which is the best model to look for as I am not sure what year and model to go for.

Would preferably like Leather interior, however not sure if Mercedes did one.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

w124 series

is a good bet, virtually indestructible and some still around at the price you want. Otherwise, w123. buy a copy of Mercedes enthusiast next week i think, and check the for sale ads.

Totally agree with Myros - and don't be put off by a hole worn in the side-support cushion of the driver's seat! Every Merc. of the age you are after has this problem, even leather!
Good luck.

the 123 is the last one made that was a DIY car, nicely made did have some rust problems in unusual places, but not all. The 124 is much nicer to drive, they were the first cars to be finnished in water based paint and early ones suffered from stone chips that quickly turn to rust as the paint was too hard
by late 1998 it was sorted out. The 1999 model got the plastic side panels and a revised interior with more wood trim. I have been in taxis in spain where they have been 300,000 km and still going well even over some roads that are more pot hole than road, In many respects the only car I have ever had where you just drove and drove. Find a nice one and you cant go wrong. Wax Oil it underneath and maybe you can get buried in it.
