I'm currently looking around for a W208 CLK and have just heard about the Valeo radiator problem. I've done lots of forum searching but can't seem to find a definitive guide as to which models and which years are affected. Could anyone oblige please?
Thanks in anticipation.

May have found the answer..........

Aha...........I may have answered my own question.
Just found on another website that only W203, W209 and W211 models may be affected by the Valeo rad problem, so if I'm interested in a W208 I should be OK.
Am I right in thinking that?
Thanks in anticipation.

My '97 210 E320 petrol car has a great big VALEO sticker on the rad. The car is in the workshop now (indie, of course) having a transmission oil cooler fitted BEFORE catastrophic failure occurs.

This fault has never happened on a 210

I hope this threat wasn't the only reason you're having this done.

Glycol in the transmission fluid and bits of clutch material as well is why I'm having it done ......................grrrrrrrrrrrrr. Just waiting to see what the torque converter looks like when we get it out.

Sorry that this has happened, and not very common, normally the torque converter will have to be replaced, as the glycol raises the surfaces of the clutches. these are welded up items and cannot be opened.

Nothing else in the box should need to be replaced

You've made me feel better with regard to the gearbox ! I was expecting to have to do the torque converter. The car drives beautifully, with almost seamless gear changes so I am not expecting to be told that the gearbox has issues. It's only done 63k and has a full MBSH. I;m waiting for the phone call ....
