My sprinter has a tiny exhaust maifold leak that causes this. Its got one broken stud but no soot showing.

It whitsles on take off when cold. Once the exhaust heats a bit it stops doing it.

But it also does it on a long overrun. I guess the gasses in the exhaust are just cold air then, so it cools the manifold enough to uncover the leak again. And the exhaust back pressure from the VNT is enough to cause that cold air to escape and whistle through the leak.

As soon as you are back on the throttle again the whistle stops after a few seconds of hot gasses again.
