I'm looking to get some tyre shine, maybe about 5 litres, instead of the usual Halfords spray stripe up. Which one do you use/recommend at a decent price? ta.

I like Autosmart Tyre Dandy, but its a spray foam, so probably not what you are looking for. Gives a smart new-tyre look, without too much shine or slime.
Buy a case of 12 for a sensible price. Singly they are pricey.

Yeah, I'm kinda thinking of the sort of stuff the Romanians use in Sainsburys car pk. I'm thinking of going up to one and tapping him up for 5 litres, if I hold out some readies which he won't want to refuse, but if that doesn't work...I'd prefer a recco.

Are there any that do not shine too much and do not leave black streaks all over your trousers as you brush by the car.

You really have to let the foam ones dry in before driving off cause they streak onto the rims and catch the brake dust.

You want to try the Autosmart one Malcolm. Not too shiny and no trouser mess ;-)

I'll give you a can to try next time I see you. Perhaps Haynes museum meet in the summer if it happens...

i use Meguiars Hyper Dressing, it comes in a gallon size. its heavily concentrated and you have to manually dilute it with water and advantage is you can select how much of a shiny or matte finish you want by adjusting the dilution ratio.

this does not leave marks on clothes as its water based. neither does it sling

http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/valeting-and-bulk/meguiars-hyper-dressing/prod_417.html

being water based its excellent for protection not just shine compared to silicone or foam based products.

This is more the price I had in mind, the way I'll get through it.http://www.amazon.co.uk/WAC-Tyre-Sh...TF8&qid=1426405809&sr=8-7&keywords=tyre+shine

as long as its safe for rubber and beads water on it then its good to go, rest is just a preference on how much one wants to spend

that said hyper dressing is heavily concentrated so it more economical in the long run, so far in one year i have only used 400-500ml out of the gallon applying to all trim not just tyres. and taking care of 4 cars.but of course mine are not driven often.

this would last you a really really long time.

Yeah all my cars are cleaned every week regardless, so I apply it after that. I 1st bought a spray from Halfords that didn't last long at all, and I'm not after an expensive Classic car showroom finish, but just a reasonable finish just to compliment the weekly wash, similar to what the Romanians use down in the supermarket car pks. I'm going to go with the amazon stuff for a kick off and will report back, once used.

Google homemade tyre shine using baby oil or castor oil, you can make loads for pennies.

Well!! blow me down. Never did I see that one coming, and I have just done so, (googled) to find cheap and non damaging products/recipes. Many, many thanks for that idea, it is the ONLY way forward for me now and the manufacturers can shove theirs!! This is exactly the reason forums like this are so useful. Zipperdy do dah, zipperdy ay.......................

If you're not fussed about a Matt look then Aerospace 303 Protectant is what i use.

The key is you have to scrub the tyres so that they are fully cleaned. I use Bilt Hamber Surfex at a dilution of 5:1 and a nail brush

So this is the tyres being scrubbed

Once it the soap suds white then the tyre is clean

After that i use a heat gun to dry out the tyres (or leave it in the sun all day whilst cleaning other bits on the car). Then i apply the 303 with a detailing brush (basically a pastry brush but the hairs are treated at the base to reduce them falling out due to chemicals)

Apply it liberally and let it soak in. I normally heat the tyre up a bit with the heat gun then apply the 303. This way it soaks into the rubber and lasts a lot longer.

Here is the 303 drying on the car

I then use an old microfibre the next day to wipe round all the tyres to ensure their is no excess that can fling up the bodywork.

You can buy 303 from a no. of places but if you're only using it on the tyres then a 32oz spray bottle should last quite a while.

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/303-aerospace-protectant-32oz.php?manufacturers_id=62

If you want more though you can buy a US Gallon (3.78ltrs)

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/303-aerospace-protectant-us-gallon-378-litres.php?manufacturers_id=62

I use it on the tyres and the engine bay to keep everything clean.

some members at my home forum had some weird suggestions to a similar topic there, one said to you a mixture of sugar and water an din fact wrote a complete recipie on it, one member then pointed out to not forget to keep a fly swatter in the car then

another member gave the suggestion of using brake yes brake fluid on tyre sidewalls, other members again quickly pointed out he should not have a driver's license.

and some more suggestions of peanut butter and coke, needless to say the thread was moved to the humor forum section instead.

spray while cleaning will always stain them especially with big wheels, a hard brake to stop makes them shiny again.
