I have had my C180 advertised for well over six weeks now and no one has even been and looked at!

I appreciate its the "small" engine and its manual which doesn't make it that desirable but at the end of the day it is not that much more expensive to run than a mondy and would make anyone an excellent car. And I am not looking for the earth for it either.

Just don't know how people can decide that they don't want it without even looking!

Anyone else had trouble?

Whenever I've had issues selling a car I've put it on ebay. Just write a good long description with details of all recent work, whack on 12 pics that can be supersized and wait 7 or 10 days. Has worked well twice so far.

You don't say what you are asking or where you are advertising. Or the year, mileage and registration etc. If you go to the Glass's Guide website they will give you a full valuation with trade, part ex, private sale and dealer prices all for only £2-95p. Usually it is price if nobody looks, or advertising in the wrong place. Manual is definitely a bit of a negative as well over 90% of UK Mercs are auto. But at the right price it should go.

Hello,

Where are you advertising, how much are you asking and whats the spec of the car. Agree manual on a C class not great but at the right price it should sell?

I've had this before, advertising in the local paper / autotrader / exchange and mart will reach a large audience however I found that the only calls I would get were the 'We have people in you area wanting to buy your car at your price, just pay ££ to us" Apart from my last car which I ended up trading in I have sold quite a few by parking them down the drive with a for sale sign on. Last car I sold was only parked there for 1/2 hr and I do live out in the wilds.

If you're advertising in Autotrader, take as many photos as you can after it's just been washed and waxed, and include 3 or 4 of the interior (if it's just been valeted) and if you've got alloys which are in good condition take a close up of the best one (preferably after you've just treated the rubber with tyre gloss or similar). Scuffed wheels say a lot about the care that has been taken with the car. Even open the bonnet and the boot and take photos - show people how clean the engine is and that you've not wrecked the boot taking rubbish to the dump.

In the description take out any unnecessary, flowery words - stick to listing the options and extras. Describe the condition of the tyres - these are an unavoidable major expense and buyers take comfort if they can see there is another 10K miles left on them.

But above all if the price is not realistic then you haven't a hope. It must be the going rate for your area as well - it can vary considerably from one side of the Pennines to the other. It does bring the chickens home to roost though about the reduced desirability of certain engine options and a manual box - presumably you got it for a lower price to begin with?

Hello,

Agree add as many pictures as you can and the best description you can. However a VERY valid point if the price isn't right then it will never sell.

Post a link to your advert. We can then suggest how to maybe get some interest?

Have you put in on www.pistonhheads.com its free and allows several pictures, have to say this and flea bay has worked well for me in the past.
